Thread: Wii u pad is Making a bad rattle

When i shake my Wii u pad it makes a Pretty loud rattle (Sounds like something is loose and flying around in it)right Above the start and select button. I was wondering if this is normal I do not remember hearing it when I played the Wii u kiosk at GameStop.

uh oh, hopefully wont have to send back to manufacturer that could take weeks. I hope its not a bad sign of gyro recall or something, but welcome to forums

Just grabbed my Gamepad and shook it. The only rattling I heard was from the R and L buttons, so no, it is not supposed to do that. I'm sorry to hear about your issue with it.

It may be worth sending in for repairs, but that can wait if it still functions properly. Really depends on how much it bothers you.

I'd say something is loose and you can probably fix it yourself if you know your electronics.

I probably could but I am afraid if I open it up they will be able to tail and void my warranty

Tip it top-to- bottom and bottom-to-top slowly. Does it sound like the piece is loosely traversing across the body of your Gamepad, or isolated to one spot? As others have also asked, does it actually function or are you afraid to turn it on?

It is in one spot the same spot I originally stated it does not move around and is very loud it even makes the sound when I have all triggers pushed In. It functions just fine but I have paid $500 thus far and won't a product that is pristine and don't make loud rattling sounds cheapening the Product up

ah poor guy, man I wish that didnt happen, you could send the gamepad back and just use wiimotes or pro until it comes back

Thank you I will probably play and beat Mario wii u and send it back After the game is over the next game I won't Will not be released until next year so should have plenty of time for them to fix it All I wanted to know is if it was normal but I gather it is not normal so thank you all for your help. And will be contacting Nintendo shortly.

I would not recommend this. This might void the warrenty. If its not affecting gameplay just calm down and look on nintendo.com for the place to put in a ticket. If you need more help i will find it for you.

Can't you just take it to your shop so they will exchange whole console on new one ? At least it is working like this in UK (for first 30 days, after that normal warranty)

It shouldn't be making that sound, strange indeed.

Firstly, make sure you don't try and fix it yourself. Not only will you void the warranty but you will probably end up breaking it by mistake (and you will need the warranty then!) My best recommendation would be to dig out your receipt and send it back to wherever you received the console, show them what's wrong and ask for a replacement.

I'm sorry about the gamepad and I hope you get things sorted out soon!

Store policy so much for the so called land of the free! Another reason to love where I live might have to wait for stuff a little longer but if it's not fit for purpose at least I'll get a replacement or my money back from the place of purchase.

On topic this is possibly a loose camera this was an issue on the iPhone 4s believe it or not the WiiU pad uses a very similar design for the camera mount, this is possibly what is rattling the cam might have come away from the mount.

Hopefully, it is not a problem in all Wii Us.

The right side rattle is the stylus in the holder, or the buttons. They all make a rattle sound.

Mine rattles in that same area. I don't think it's a problem

Same rattle here... seems like to shells of the A,B,Y,X buttons... held them down and was pretty quiet. I wouldn't freak... Im sure its meant to be that way.

Its most likely just the stylus and the 4 face buttons. Nothing should be broken though

Same here, it's probably just the buttons. Nothing is loose, even an xbox controller does this.

Well I hope it's not a fault for you... as others have said, could be just the face buttons and stylus rattling.

Mine has a big rattle. Everything seems ok so far though..

Just call Nintendo and see what they say. No point in trying to return it to the store as its very unlikely for you to find a store with stock anyway.

If they determine something is wrong with it, they will send you a courier box to ship to to them in and send you a new one or repair yours.

When Wii launched back in 2006 his Wii died the day he bought it, turn around time was 2 or 3 weeks if I recall correctly (but that was 6 years ago).

Mine also has a rattle, but functions just fine, so I'm not going to worry about it.

take out the stylus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that causes most of the sound! after you take it out it is not that bad.

I mean, it's a new toy but really it's just a game console like the 360 and ps3 and I get it, it's new and shiny but there's more to live than video games. At least until zelda is released than I call in sick...a lot.

Your gamepad may be possessed! But either way it doesn't seem like too bad of a problem...for now.... [it's a sign of the apocalypse]

I think it could possibly be the gyroscope making that noise.

I had a look on the Internet, and there's WAY to many people complaining about this for it too be a physical problem. It might possibly be something to do with the Rattle Pad/Gyroscope, but I hope Nintendo answers our questions about this soon.

Why is this an issue for people? As far as I know there isn't any games that require you to rattle your controller like it's a maraca. Anyways it's where the stylus goes into the hole that's making the noise. Shine a led flashlight into it and you'll see what I'm talking about. The noise comes from the right hand side where the stylus goes and where the interface buttons are located. Not an issue for me. The only issue I have is with the console light indicating that there is a disc inside when the console is powered off.

Has anyone figured out what is actually making the rattle?

It's obviously a motion sensor.

In my experience it is the 4 buttons. If I hold them all down and wiggle the control pad, the rattling get's much quieter (but does still rattle a little).

BTW I have the black/premium version. It pretty much cannot be anything else. If you look at the tear down pictures for the gamepad, the x,y,a,b buttons are all encased in a plastic shell and as far as I could hear, that's the exact location that the rattle is coming from. There doesn't seem to be anything else in the area that could make that sound (bumper buttons pressed or not do not change the sound of the rattle).

For my money, it's on the x,y,a,b buttons.

I personally think the control pad could have been made a little better. I can only see in the future a control pad pro

Back on topic here. I have the same rattling, and I think it's more of a nuisance than a problem. Wish it wan't there though.

Actually a lot of people have had that. It's not a problem, it's just the ABXY buttons shaking in their place. Although you probably don't need any more info on this thread.

Actually I just realized mine is caused by the volume slider.
