Should Nintendo implement a trophy/achievement system?

I know from personal experience, that trophies and achievements help sell games. I myself am a trophy whore on the PS Vita and PS3. I purchase or rent games that I normally would never play. Many times I find some really good games that I never would have thought of playing.

I also enjoy the added challenges to the games. I love looking at the trophy list, and dedicating more time in to that game, so that I can try to eventually unlock the Platinum trophy. Sometimes I join competitions to see who can gain the most trophies in a set time frame.

What do you guys think? Should Nintendo introduce their own trophy system? I personally think this is a must, and never should have been bypassed in the first place.

Personally I don't care. But I do hate those who show off about having x amount of achievements and achieving trophie Y. Achieving something virtually is nothing to be too proud of. People should strive to achieve in real life.

Meh... Sometimes a trophy/achievement system gives the player something to strive for but I find all it does is fuel the people that think they are "hardcore" and just want bragging rights. I much rather have fun playing the games than boasting how many achievements I have unlocked.

Personally, whenever I try to be a completionist when it comes to trophies and the like - I wind up not even finishing the game...ha. A lot of the trophies that are put into games have you completing such mundane, time consuming tasks, that I simply lose interest.

On the off chance I do finish, and get that Platinum trophy...I'm left with that, 'well now what' feeling. Or better yet, 'well that was a waste of time.'

When trophy systems were first released, I almost felt obligated to try and obtain all trophies. But now, I happily ignore them (which took some training) and play the game for the enjoyment. I'll only go for the trophies that interest me. I know MANY people love having that additional goal to strive for, and I don't see how a trophy system would hinder anyone's enjoyment of a game. Unless you're a bit OCD when it comes to completing things...

But one thing is for certain, I will absolutely be playing Kingdom Hearts HD for PS3, and I will be playing on Proud (I think they are adding Proud difficulty to the new one) and I WILL beat Sephiroth. I will then proceed to flaunt that shit to everyone (sorry, brycek).

I really like the whole idea. I dont get why some people are so adamantly against it, because 1. it adds replay value (however slightly) 2. they can get you to try things you never thought of. 3. They're optional.

I hope they take the stamps idea from Nintendo Land and make it system-wide.

I really don't care. When I get achievements in games, it's usually unintended and I don't expect to get one.

I voted yes, but I'd consider it a "nice to have" and not a "must have." I do like the trophies/leaderboards in the Rayman challenge app, so it would be cool to have a universal system to see how friends are compared, etc.

Notice nobody is voting "no", but quite a few vote "I do not care". I don't really see any reason to vote no for a feature you can choose not to use. I'm not against it because there are plenty of people who would enjoy it. But personally, I don't give a rat's backside whether they do or do not. I don't have the time, money, or desire to play games I don't care about just to get trophies. But if they added it, I wouldn't be pissed.

Yes, because it adds replay value to games and there are MANY completionist in gaming that would complete every single achievement/trophy. And how awesome would it be to show off the trophies you got on Miiverse?

I personally don't care. I couldn't tell you what trophies or achievements I have on my PS3 or 360.

However, I do know that Nintendo does achievements right in games they implement them in. Take Mario & Luigi: Luigi's Dream Team for example. I know I have 330 points because at certain levels of achievements, you get an item! The achievements help you in your game! In fact, "expert" items increase in strength as you gain achievements.

I dont think they should have an achievement/trophy system the way Sony/Microsoft does it, but I feel they should take the idea and put their own spin on it. I think that would be cool and would give people more incentive to play certain games or keep playing them

I don't really care, but I want a reward System when you got a achievement...like in Tf2 you gain a new weapon when you did do 7 achievement, or like in Xenoblade (gaining free exp)

I know the Xenoblade thing is like the challenge thing...

Build a "functional" achievement system that when you reach a certain level you can use the points towards Virtual Console purchases and in-game specific DLC such as costume/weapon/character unlocks that are accessable in-game and add value to it!

I always thought it would be cool if you could unlock different Mii accessories. Like if you collect all the star coins in NSMBU then you earn Mario's hat or if you finish Arkam Origins you earn a batman mask. Your Miis can wear these accessories around the Wara Wara plaza. Showing off your work and simultaneously advertising for games.

I say yes. The platinum trophy is how I show my love for the game. I only 100% games I'm absolutely in love with being able to publically show my love for Smash, and Zelda like I can for Infamous and Fallout would be a dream come true.

I know another member came up with this sort of idea (though it could have been you lol), that you would earn Mii accessories and the "platinum" would be getting the complete Mii. And personally I think that's an awesome way to go about it. This way Lethal, Devious, and I can continue to go for the "platinum" while the 11 who voted I don't care earn cool accessories for thier Mii's while they play. That is what we call a win/win.

I don't care. I thought when I first got my 360 that you could redeem them for MS Points, but once I saw you couldn't, I stopped caring.

Dodge, you hit the nail on the head! If your points are nothing more than bragging rights, then they are COMPLETELY WORTHLESS!

If however they are redeemable towards something such as Mii's, credits that can be used for online purchases, or other DLC redemptions then they are something that has a tangible value!

Yeah I came up with this idea and have been posting it for a while now but I also remember someone else coming up with something similar. Either way its a good idea that Nintendo should jump on. I wish there was a way I could connect to Nintendo directly and share my ideas.

I find myself attempting particular challenges that I normally would not to achieve trophies for ps3. It's fun to compare trophies with online friends. I would love to see Nintendo implement it into their consoles.

YES. i was really disappointed when i heard that it wasn't being implemented.
They add those achievements in game, but i would like a system wide achievements system similar to the 360.

can i live without it? yes.
would i like my wii u better if it had it? YES!

Well epic yarn had a lot of collectibles ingame you can see that as achievements. In most 3d mario's you need a certain amount of stars to get to the endboss , it is an achievement on itself to get them all. You can see things like that as an achievement.

I don't care much about trophies but some bonus Mii accessories might be fun. When I get trophies on PS3 I'm usually surprised (I got a trophy for THAT?) and I don't try for any achievements that I wouldn't otherwise do in normal gameplay. If Nintendo had their own take on a trophy system I wouldn't object to it.

If they made a nintendo spin on it i wouldn't mind. Just do not copy xbox or ps just because they feel the need to add an achievement system. Still if it doesn't come i wouldn't mind it either.

ps. Sometimes i care about not caring (but didn't care enough to vote)

They add those achievements in game, but i would like a system wide achievements system similar to the 360.

can i live without it? yes.
would i like my wii u better if it had it? YES!
I second both of these opinions

    Collectibles != achievements

If Nintendo can implement a system that does something new and becomes legitimately rewarding, then I'm all for it. If they just want to clone another system out there, then I really couldn't care less. I like what uplay does where you can unlock ingame rewards for completing objectives. But just doing random tasks to increase a number doesn't interest me anymore.

Sure why not? Achievements are fun little things to toy around with.

Another idea I thought of today at work would be getting pins of the pictures that accompany an achievement/trophy, then you can pin your favorite 8 (or whatever number) to you're Mii to show them off

Stickers or stamps would be ok too, and the could have a sticker book with a page for each of your games in it.

That statement doesn't make much sense. You may buy more games because of trophies/achievements, that doesn't mean everybody does.

That being said, if Nintendo doesn't ramp up some sort of trophy system here in the near future, they're being completely idiotic. It's a fairly simple thing to implement, lots of people are clamoring for it, and it's not a aspect of a game that would be forced on anybody! Get with it, Nintendo!

Who said "everybody" does? I said that I know from personal experience that trophies and achievements help sell games. And this is a fact. Go to any trophy or achievement based forum, and you find out for yourself. I also managed a Gamestop for 2 years, and I encountered hundreds of customers that would come in wanting to buy games with the easiest trophies/achievements.
