So we JUST got our Wii U and we plugged it in ready to rock. Of course there is immediately a software update so we begin downloading instead of doing "Skip"... obvious, right? I'm wondering if we should have skipped!
At first I thought something was wrong with my Wi-Fi network, but right now I'm realizing there are probably TONS of people trying to simultaneously download updates from the Nintendo servers which is causing the lag.
So... if you're sitting around bored while your Wii U Software is updating for the first time... join me in my agony and say hello lol!
Well I'm not suffering any lag yet. I hope it's not too bad when I try to update tomorrow afternoon. What's up anyway, you must be pacing around like a caged animal.

Im hoping I wont run into too much lag when I update my WiiU next week. Either way, I sympathize with your pain... be grateful you get to snuggle up next to your GamePad tonight though.![]()

I can finally test my AT&T 4G LTE for the first time hopefully with the Wii-U update. Good luck who ever was fortunate enough to get the system at midnight. Be patient my young padwans.... and let the force be with you.![]()
I have to say the update is slow. been atleast 20mins and still going.
remember guys its not just about downloading data but also installing , instantiating, flashing, and making sure things work. you could do it quick or you can do it right!
and the more separate files there are in an update the slower the download will be.
I guess you're not an IT. Most of time will take download as file is around 5 gigabytes (a little less than 1080p 60 minutes video), so if you have 20-40Mbps you should get from 2.5MBs to 5MBps (if Nintendo provided appropriate uploads from their servers and you would use 100% of your bandwidth it will take at least 34 minutes to download, around 25-70 minutes (depends from speed of flash drive) to unpack/copy files. Remember that Nintendo providing very cheap hardware and you all have slow flash drives inside, it's mean then unpacking will be deadly slow (if unpacking) also copying won't be even close to what you getting on normal HDD not mention SSD.).
I guess you should say Nintendo has such awful developers, who's created 5GB update after sending it to production. Debugging team I guess is one of cheapest teams in Nintendo![]()
Well you get what you paid for.

Yeah, it's like when Apple release a new iOS, every one is on board to get it as fast as they can and the whole severs crash.
Can't really judge Nintendo for the lagging updates, they didn't want all the features to be spoiled by gaming websites so waiting until launch day. Still, a bit uneasy over it but you'll survive.

Will the Wii U shut down mid-download? I have terrible internet so the DL is gonna take forever. Hear it shuts down after an hour of inactivity. Can you disable that before you start downloading?
If your in IT like me then you should know that the average update nowadays for any system is 5GB and over, especially a freshly built system.
The WiiU is a fresh build and as such needs all features added, how do you purpose they make those features only say 5MB? are you living in the past? Additional; The system doesn't contain cheap flash disks inside that's a very bad description of the NAND chips used in the system, the System has high read/write NAND memory 8GB and 32GB depending on the system with a very specific file format, the same NAND chips used in very expensive SSD's, it's just they are onboard and not through a SATA connection, this is much faster as there is no possible bottle neck from bad controllers.
This would not happen, the system cannot shut down during an update like any system, until the system requires a complete restart when it's ready.

Im playing ZombiU all day...ill update my system when i go to sleep tonight
just hooked mine up and installing the update now. thankfully i have some errands to run and football to watch while i wait. this thing is sweet. just based off the seconds i've had with it setting up this console seems to be a gem. definately nintendos finest work. i also wanted to check out the rounded edges on the game dics and they feel sweet. it has the same hard feel as a blu ray disc but a smooth round edge. it's almost like nintedo brought in some apple designers to really make this system elegant. nice job nintendo, nice job
I walked into Toys R Us at 8:20 this morning and asked for a Deluxe, and they had some! Forget preordering and waiting in line!It took roughly 3.5 hours for the initial update to complete. It was SLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Then I clicked on Netflix and needed that updated. It was also SLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW. Then I put in New Super Mario Bros U and it needed an update, and it was suprisingly SLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW.
I'm updating NintendoLand right now (slowly). Then I'll play that for a while, then get ZomiU to update as well.
Everything requires an update and they have been painfully slow. I took the opportunity to go out and grab a wiimote. Although I wish the updates weren't needed. That would be about 5-6 hours of play time I think.
My gamepad ran low on battery from all the waiting. Can't see any way for the gamepad to shutdown while using the WiiU. It turns on with the console. That will make it slow to charge up.
Just finished my update. Took roughly 60-70 minutes. Rough but i have an exam which i need to study for so it helped having that time.

Hi, I've had to edit a couple of posts to fall in with forum policy on language and respectful posting. It seems the update has upset some, but please keep in mind this forum is read by all ages and language that is appropriate for some, may not be the same for others.
Any issues with that, you're more than welcome to drop me a PM.![]()

It doesn't auto-shut off until 90 minutes of inactivity, and I think that feature turns on after you install the initial update. So, no. Don't worry and enjoy the background music/turn on the tv with your shiny new remote!
Eh...there goes five hours.

After mine wouldnt connect to server , i was on a phone with a specialist doing like hacking type stuff just to connect, now im just waiting, been quite awhile. Just remember dont turn it off or it will become a brick.

Many have fall victim from broken homes, though Elmo's Caretaker has resigned from Sesame Street, let us not dishonor an innocent creature. Help save Elmo in difficult transition, hope for a new Caretaker and hope he can stay living in Sesame Street near his friends and be happy.
lol, dreading this update on my connection. Ah well, needs must.
